6/18/1991 - Tuesday

Karen:  I got up early today - 5:30.  We all had showers.  We stopped at the Bonneville Dam and Multnomah Falls.  we got to Helen & Joe's about 2:30 P.M.  Everyone came for dinner - Steve, Nancy, Annie (11) & Emily (6); Chris & Marni and Andrew & Joey.  Russ & Dorothy came after dinner.  All the kids had a great time together.  And the rest of us had a really good time too.  It was a beautiful day in Portland.  And that was the first nice day they’d had all Spring!

John:  We drove 215 miles today.  Went through the Columbia River Gorge.  It was beautiful.  Stopped at the Bonneville Dam & saw the fish ladders.  Saw some good sized Shad through the viewing windows.  Then stopped at the Multnomah Falls just outside of Portland, OR.  The falls are the 2nd highest in the nation at 620 feet.  Visiting everyone in Portland at Helen & Joe’s was nice.

Susan: We drove 618 miles. We are 211 miles from Portland, Oregon. I can’t wait to see Annie.

Kari says: Bridge over the river is spooky cause you can see down through it to the river.

John: Uneventful day. Most of Idaho was pretty bleak the way we went (RT84). A lot of driving. Ran into a real asshole at the first camp ground we stopped at here in Pendleton... Don’t know what his problem was - We went to another spot on down the road... by a river of course.
